The 2017 James Beard Foundation Restaurant & Chef Semifinalists!

New York Hotspot Le Coucou Is A Best New Restaurant FinalistCongratulations to American Chef in Paris, Daniel Rose (Spring and La Bourse et La Vie) and legendary restauranteur, Stephen Starr. Their much buzzed about Le Coucou is recognized as a James Beard Foundation, Best New Restaurant Semifinalist. Curtis Stone and Luke Stone's Gwen | Los Angeles, is also a semifinalist. Outstanding Pastry Chef semifinalists include Melissa Chou, now out of Mister Jiu's | San Francisco and Dolester Miles | Highlands Bar & Grill, Birmingham.

Rising Star Chef of the Year Semifinalists include Martha Wiggins, Sylvain | New Orleans and Miles Thompson, Michael’s | Santa Monica. 


Congratulations also to Detroit, Michigan, for showcasing semifinalists for Outstanding Baker--Lisa Ludwinski | Sister Pie, Outstanding Bar Program--at Standby, Best Chef: Great Lakes--Andy Hollyday | Selden Standard and another Best New Restaurant Semifinalist, Katoi. Katoi, a Thai fusion restaurant, suffered a major fire on the morning of February 17th. The blaze consumed the dining and bar areas, leaving the kitchen intact. It is reported the restaurant may resurface as a pop-up experience, in the meantime.
The final Restaurant and Chef Award nominees, as well as the nominations for Book, Journalism, Broadcast Media, and Restaurant Design Awards, will be announced in Los Angeles on Wednesday, March 15th. The nominees will be revealed in realtime on Facebook and Twitter.
The 2017 James Beard Awards Gala will be held at the Lyric Opera of Chicago on Monday, May 1st. The Foundation's Media Awards will take place at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers in New York City on Wednesday, April 25th.
